Charlotte Taylor

Charlotte Ann Taylor was born on January 16, 1942 to parents, Edna and Lea Williams in Rayville, Louisiana. She departed peacefully on the evening of June 6, 2025. Charlotte was the youngest of 11 children. After moving to St. Louis, Missouri in her 10 years, Charlotte met and married Elijah Taylor in June of 1959. Elijah preceded her in death. Widowed at a young age, Charlotte prided herself on her independence. With faith and fortitude, she singlehandedly, raised her five children. Known to stretch a dollar until it hollered, Charlotte always made sure there was food on the table and toys under the Christmas tree. A kitchen MacGyver, given any four random ingredients, she could make a feast fit for a king. Collard and mustard greens could be found in her garden each summer, and baking biscuits and cakes from scratch was her specialty. Charlotte also knew her way around a sewing machine and would often make Easter outfits for the children. Her appetite for books was insatiable and it was not uncommon for her to finish an entire novel in one day. A devout Christian, Charlotte took great joy and helping others and her home was open to all. Growing up, it was not unusual to find a hungry child she had met earlier in the day seated at the dinner table or find an appliance missing because she deemed someone else to be in greater need of it. For many years, Charlotte also volunteered at the Independence Center for Disabled and Elderly adults, which suited her servant heart. Things that brought a smile to Charlotte‘s face: great food, a piping hot cup of coffee, a new outfit, a good Western, sharing her thrifted treasures, and ‘something sweet’ as she liked to say, preferably chocolate. Charlotte will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends and all who had the pleasure to know her. Charlotte is survived by: her sister ~ Gustavia Bates; daughters ~ Pamela Taylor, Janice (Terry) Woods, Bridget Taylor, and Angela (Allen) Gilliard; her son ~ Elijah (Alita) Tayler Jr.; grandchildren ~ Brian Taylor, Marissa Woods, Robert Taylor, Desiray Taylor, Matthew and Zachary Gilliard, Vanessa and Eric Powell, Jason and Aigner Cross; and a hefty family tree of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
