James Van Johnson

James Van Johnson, a devoted husband and father peacefully passed away on September 15, 2024 at the age of 72. Affectionally known as "Van," he was born on May 25, 1952, in St Louis, Missouri to the late Sara Louise Johnson and the late James Jesse Johnson. Van was baptized and educated at St Barbara's Catholic Church and School. After graduating from Soldan High School, he pursued higher education at Malcolm X College in Chicago, Illinois. Following his academic pursuits, Van served honorably in the United State Army. Van and Anna Johnson celebrated 26 years of marital bliss. Their shared passion for entertaining created a warm and welcoming hospitable home. A pillar of strength and support, Van was always there for his loved ones and friends, offering a listening ear, a helping hand and words of wisdom. His infectious laughter, kind heart and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was affectionately known as "Mack Daddy Woo Woo" by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Van was a savvy businessman who excelled in his career in the entertainment industry. He moved to Milwaukee to manage the Riverside Theatre, remaining in Milwaukee after the theatre closed. He was a dedicated professional who loved his craft and everyone he mentored along the way. He was a musician, promoter and agent in St Louis, Chicago and Milwaukee. In that capacity he traveled the world with well-known entertainers, groups and comedian until his health prevented travel. With his quick wit and tall tales, he had a unique ability to brighten any room. Whether he was promoting a concert, comedy show, or just entertaining at home he always knew how to make everyone feel welcome and at ease. He had a natural flair for storytelling, always captivating his audience with his humorous anecdotes. Van leaves to cherish his love and precious memories his beloved wife Anna Johnson; Children: Shay "Patrice" Coleman (Tim), Yvette Johnson, Kylon Van Cannida, Brittnay Cunigan and Corleone Johnson; Grandchildren: Ashley, Michelle "Mell", Mike. Ramya, TaNae, KcOnne, Kayla, Kyah, Kaliyah and Kellis; Great-Grandchildren: Ashton, Aniyah, Autumn and Amir: devoted brother, Harry E Johnson, Sr. (Karen), niece and nephews: Jennifer Johnson, Harry Johnson, Jr. (Angela) and Nicholas Johnson: special cousin Evelyn Hughes, and a host of relatives and close friends. Rest in peace Van. Your legacy will endure, and your memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know you.
