Bernard Orlandus Ewings Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bernard Orlandus Ewings was born October 28, 1974 in St. Louis, Missouri, and was the first-born and only son to Desuirea Ewings Harris. Uniquely, Bernard was birthed and raised at his grandmother’s house. Her home would have a profound impact on his life because it symbolized “family”, love, and the place where all the holiday gatherings occurred. It was also where he and his older cousin Chevelle Eric Davis (aka Puppy), bonded, and were more like cousin-brothers. “Puppy” the eldest also served as Bernard’s mentor, providing leadership and guidance to help him become the man he was always destined to be. Moreover, the mid 70s represented a time of social change in our country, with music changing from disco to the beginnings of rap. Bernard went on to develop an early love of music and beat-making that would later influence his younger cousins, and particularly his nephew “Mike Mike” who would follow in his musical footsteps and go on to write and produce his own beats and rhymes, before proceeding Bernard in death. Bernard accepted Christ at an early age and was a peaceful child who carried a gregarious spirit. He attended Hilltop Daycare, followed by Herzog Elementary School. He then was enrolled in the Ladue School District and later matriculated from Horton Watkins High School in 1993, where his football career started. Bernard continued his career in football at Jacksonville State University for four years. After college, he retired from his football dreams, but always dabbled in his passion and love for music, as a favorite pastime. Bernard also went on to begin his career track as a Direct Support Professional with Creative Concepts, where he was an employee for the past sixteen years. But perhaps, Bernard’s greatest achievement was becoming a proud father later in life at the age of 40 when he had his first and only child, a son, Marquise (Keezy Beezy) the love of his life. You didn't see one without the other. They were inseparable. Bernard leaves to cherish: one son Marquise O.D. Ewings; his beloved mother, Desuirea Harris, two sisters Lezley Head (Louis) and Brittanie Moment (Timothy). Three nieces: De'ja, Lakiah and Jazmine. Two nephews: Andre and Marcus and one great nephew Khilan. He also leaves to cherish his memory: three uncles, two aunts and a host of cousins and friends. Proceeding Bernard in death are his grandmother, Paralee Ewings, his aunts Mary Tolbert and Vanessa Ewings, cousin Chris Ewings and his oldest nephew, Michael O.D. Brown.
