Dorothy Cannon

Dorothy Cannon was born in Travis County Texas, January 13, 1929 where she was second to the oldest of seven children to the late Johnny and Pearlie Burleson. She attended public school in Travis County. In 1948 she was a graduate of Old L.C. Anderson High School and continued her education through a variety of training programs. In the 50’s Dorothy eagerly moved to St. Louis, Missouri where she met the love of her life, the late Jerry Cannon. She was a member of Olivet Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Dorothy retired as a nursing assistant at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on February 8, 1978. She joined MERS Missouri Goodwill Industries (senior program) in 2007 as a Front Desk Receptionist and was a dedicated worker for over 4 years. Dorothy was known as a longstanding community advocate with AARP Missouri. She often made it known that she was a staunch supporter of former President Barack Obama. She thoroughly enjoyed listening to his rendition of Amazing Grace. She loved socializing and conversing with family members, regardless of their geographical distance. Dorothy was married to Jerry Cannon and to this union, no children were born. Her spouse and three brothers, Gilbert, James, William (Red) Burleson and one sister, Johnnie Burleson-Fowler preceded her death. She is survived by her two sisters, Mrs. Juanita Whitt and Ms. Robbie Burleson; her nephews, James H. Burleson, Jr., Royal A. Burleson, Sr., Larry T. Burleson, Jackie Burleson, Sr., and Daron Waddy; her nieces, Ava M. Burleson, Carletta Bingham and Montyne Anita Ockleberry; and a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins.
