    Ernestine W. Kirkman

    February 2, 1938 - May 15, 2019

Ernestine Wilson Kirkman was born on February 2, 1938 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Aaron and Mary Linder. She was the youngest of six children: Mary A. Burke, Dorothy Hawkins, Madelyn Flournoy, Aaron Linder, Jr. and William Linder. She was preceded in death by both parents; all of her siblings; husband Morris E. Kirkman and son, Earl W. Kirkman. Before becoming a graduate of Sumner High School in 1955, Ernestine wanted to be a nurse. She was a member of the following clubs: Flag Twirlers, Service Club, Carter Woodson Club and Jr. Classical League. Her work life consisted of a grocery store clerk and a caseworker at the Missouri Division of Family Services, from which she retired in 1997. Widowed at a young age, Ernestine sometimes worked two jobs to make ends meet for her family. A woman of faith, Ernestine dearly loved her church families at both Hazelwood Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Meacham Park. She enjoyed all of the excursions she went on with her church family. Ernestine was always very active in church. She was an usher, a treasurer, served on several committees and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was big on giving, whether it was money or her time. She acted on the biblical principle of serving and was truly a cheerful giver. Ernestine also volunteered and worked at the YMCA, supported Boys Town and mentored in the South Grand Work Study High School Program. Ernestine enjoyed Bingo, game shows, wholesome TV and, in her younger years, a good party. Ernestine leaves behind: her children ~ Keith (Valerie), Johnnie (Melinda), Rachel and Brian. She also leaves twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
