    Fannie May Mills

    June 9, 1921 - December 3, 2016

Fannie Mills was born in Tchula, Mississippi on July 9th, 1921 daughter of Ira and Mary Riley. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ before leaving Tchula and relocated to Alton, Illinois. She was one of the original members of St. James Baptist Church where she sung in the choir and she worked for Monticello College for several years. A phone call to mom always ended by her stating “I am praying for you and I love all of you.” Mrs. Fannie Mills passed from this life to her reward on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016. She was a devoted wife and mother committed to family and a committed activist working with the City to help improve her neighborhood. Mom loved people, loved to talk to people and loved to challenge them to be the best that they could be. Mom had strong opinions about life and was not afraid to share her views with anyone. During her lifetime, she saw many changes and helped make some of the changes in her neighborhood. She was married to Richard Mills Senior on April 13, 1947. She was the family matriarch with a photographic memory for details and she leaves behind Larry Mills, Fontana, CA, Chris Mills, Rowlett, Texas, Richard Mills, Rialto, CA and Veverly (Mills) Anderson San Bernardino, CA and her loving grandchildren: Jason, Santwan, Jennifer, Jamel, Medina, and Joseph Mills. Other family includes the following: son-in-law; Alvin Anderson and daughter-in-laws; April Mills, Rosalie Mills, Cindy Mills, and Wunmi Mills. Additional family members include: Joyce Lakes and family, Carrie Rhymes and family, Joe Willie Griffin and family, Emanuel Brewster and family. Mom was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, mother, father, David Walls, and Alvin Anderson.
