Bennie James Gray's Obituary
Bennie James Gray was born to the union of Ira and Gladys Gray on July 8, 1947 in St. Louis Missouri.
He was baptized at an early age in 1955 and remained a member of West Siew Baptist Church for 63 years. Bennie was educated in the St. Louis Public School District and graduated from Beaumont High School.
Bennie career was in the hotel and hospitality industry. He was employed at The Chase Park Plaza in their valet dry cleaning services for over twenty-five years and continued his employment at the Adams Mark Hotel until his retirement in the late nineties.
He was an active sports fan. The Oakland Raiders, Los Angeles Lakers, and the St. Louis Cardinals were his favorite teams. Bennie loved to eat and didn’t want to be disturbed when his games were on. In addition, Bennie loved to travel and spend time with his family during the holidays. Bennie absolutely adored his nieces and nephews and they affectionately called him “Uncle Bobo”.
Bennie’s parents, Ira and Gladys Gray, both preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish: his twin sister ~ Betty Jean GrayNelson (Johnnie), Lorraine Gray-Williams (Charles), Loretta Gray; his nieces ~ Tracy Gray-Fields (Joseph) and Kina Nelson-Davis (Justin); nephews Johnnie (Pinto) Nelson and Quincy and Logan Fields; his uncle Melvin Perry and Aunt Verma Chewe; and a host of relatives and friends. Special thanks to his friends Floyd Combs and family, Ms. Gwen Ware and Mr. James Rucks and all of his friends at the McCormack House at Forest Park Southeast where he resided.
