Betty Jean Jenkins' Obituary
Betty Jean Jenkins was born on July 19, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was the only child of Ellis and Mary Ellen Evans, who preceded her
in death.
Betty’s parents were two of the founding members of Mount Bethel
Missionary Baptist Church, where Betty was later baptized. Betty was a
faithful, devoted and very active member. She attended Sunday School,
sang in the choir, served as president of the Glee Club and assisted her
mother in the kitchen.
Betty was later united in marriage to Lionell Fritz Jenkins, who preceded
her in death. To this union two children were born, Crystal and Carlos.
Betty was a stickler for education. She received an Associate’s Degree
from Florissant Valley and later served on the board. She also received
her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Saint Louis University.
Betty lived a very productive life and she took her final breath on
Wednesday, September 13, 2017. She leaves to cherish her memory:
one daughter ~ Crystal Jenkins; one son ~ Carlos Jenkins, Sr. (Kelley);
four grandchildren ~ Keenan Sr., Kennedy, Corey and Carlos Jr.; one
great grandson ~ Keenan Jr.; one aunt ~ Alice Taylor; cousin who was
more like a brother ~ Dr. Edward Roberts; cousins who were dear to her
heart ~ John Roberts, Jr., Alycia Roberts, Vincent Roberts, James
Raymon Shanks, DeQuan Shanks, Qwen Lofton, Nathaniel Marshall;
and a host of family and friends.
