Charles Walton Gude's Obituary
Charles Walton Gude was born on September 7, 1939 to Jay Mack
and Eva Lee Gude, in Mason, Tennessee. The second eldest of four
children, Casey Mack (deceased), Alice (deceased) and Wilbert Earl. He
spent his childhood on the family farm until he decided to set out to make
his own mark in the world. And make his mark he did! He spent time in
Chicago, Detroit and went on to settle down in St. Louis where he met and
married the love of his life, Mattye Mae, which preceded him in death.
Lovingly known as ‘Rap’ or ‘Spud’, Charles was the life of the party. He
loved the blues, dancing, bbq, and especially his family. You could often
find Z.Z.Hill’s Down Home Blues, playing on his radio. There was never a
dull moment with him. If you met Charles you never forgot it. He worked
hard and played even harder. Telling a good joke or pulling a prank on
someone was a favorite pastime. Charles loved to laugh and have fun. He
always had a piece of honest advice for you though, if you asked or even if
you didn’t.
Charles retired from Hussman Refrigeration after 32 faithful years. He kept
being active and enjoying retirement until October 28, 2017 when the Lord
said, “Enough”.
He is also preceded in death by one son, Darryl L. Gude Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children ~ Charles L. (Gail) Gude,
Calvin L. Tipton, Audrey L. (Paul) McKinney, Tracy L. Gude, Stephanie
A. (Khapi) Nunez, Almeda Billington and Geraldine Clark; seventeen
grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren;
a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
