Cynthia Louise Shivers' Obituary
Cynthia Louise Shivers went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 17, 2017
at the age of sixty-eight.
Ms. Shivers was born on September 8, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended
St. Bridget School in St. Louis and Providence High School, also in St. Louis.
Maya Angelou once said that a person’s legacy is defined by the things you do
and the lives you touch. In her various capacities as a school bus driver, a cab
driver and a TWA ticket agent, she touched the lives of every person she met with
her kind demeanor and vibrant personality.
Her greatest legacy however, lives on with her loving daughter, Michelle, who will
forever be grateful for her guidance, her life lessons and her never ending
devotion.
She found enjoyment in watching TV shows that depicted African-Americans in
positive, hopeful and inspirational lights, as well as in listening to Motown music.
Her greatest joy, however, was in spending valuable time with family and friends.
In addition to her daughter, Cynthia is survived by: her brother and his wife ~
James and Gwen Treadwell; her nieces ~ Ingrid and Lauren Treadwell; three
grandnieces; and one grandnephew.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Grace Treadwell; her brother, Andrew
Treadwell and her husband, Charles Shivers.
Cynthia’s life was taken by a rare form of uterine cancer called carcinosarcoma
(sometimes called malignant mixed mullerian tumor or MMMT). Because it is
rare, there is a lack of attention and funds devoted to research.
The Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center’s GCS Project is the only
group in this country solely devoted to finding treatments and cures for
carcinosarcoma. Please consider donating to this cause in Cynthia’s memory and
to help them make sure that no more lives are taken by this horrible disease.
