Dorothy Jean Hill's Obituary
Ms. Dorothy Jean Hill was born on November 26, 1946, in Glendora, MS, to the late Curley Mae Mitchell and Ulyses Hill. She was a beloved member of the Kingsbury Terrace Apartments and Parkview Apartments communities, and passed away peacefully in St. Louis, MO, on December 1, 2024. Dorothy Jean obtained her education at TY Fleming in Minter City, MS. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a devoted mother and had a great sense of humor. She also loved dancing and enjoyed listening to blues. Additionally, Dorothy Jean had a flair for fashion, often incorporating many beautiful and vibrant colors in her daily attire. Dorothy Jean was a remarkable woman whose leadership, compassion, and vibrant personality left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Dorothy Jean served as the Tenant Advisory Board (TAB) President from 2009 to 2022. Under her leadership, she organized numerous activities and events that fostered community spirit and brought joy to countless lives. Beyond her role as a leader, Dorothy Jean was known for her exceptional culinary skills which she developed as a young adult while working at various restaurants throughout the Memphis and St Louis areas. She often cooked for gatherings and events that brought the community together, as well as for anyone who simply wanted a taste of soul. Dorothy Jean was also known for her famous homemade egg pies, lemon meringue pies and peach cobbler which she so lovingly made upon request. In addition to her Advisory Board presidency, Dorothy Jean served as a Lobby Monitor from 2009 to 2024, providing steadfast support to her community. She was a constant presence, providing support and ensuring the well-being of her neighbors. Her efforts extended beyond her immediate community as she partnered with local leaders to secure food and essential items for residents in need. Her generosity and care were unmatched. Dorothy Jean was deeply loved and respected by all who knew within the Kingsbury community. Her legacy of kindness, leadership, and service will forever be cherished. Dorothy Jean Hill will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the residents she so faithfully served. She leaves behind a legacy of love and community spirit that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. To mourn her passing, she leaves: her three children ~ Larry Hill (Miami, Florida), Mert Mack (St. Louis, MO) and Carol Roby (St. Louis, MO); siblings ~ Robert, Earnest, Ernestine, Mertis, and Idella, Maxine; and a host of cousins; grandchildren ~ George L. Rhodes and Donnell L. Jones; great grandchildren ~ Ciara Rhodes and Bailey Rhodes; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings, James, Otis, Louis, JB, John, Hamp Jr., Willy, Walter Jr., Ella, Minnie Mae, and Annie Pearl.
