Dorothy A. McGrew's Obituary
Dorothy Ann McGrew was born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, on January 3, 1938, to Albert and Connie Poindexter. She was the fifth of six children. From an early age, Dorothy loved to share her faith and talk about the goodness of the Lord. Dorothy graduated from Parrish High School in Hazlehurst and soon moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked alongside her brother. During her childhood and beyond, she was nurturing by nature and always cared for others in need. On May 13, 1960, she married Roy McGrew, Jr. From this union 5 children were born. In 1965, the family relocated to St. Louis, Missouri. Dorothy began working at Moog Automotive, where she dedicated 30 years of service before retiring. Following retirement, she devoted her time to volunteer at San Francisco Temple under the leadership of Bishop Dwight McDaniels, Jr. She treasured the fellowship and friendships she built with other women there. Known for her strong work ethic, Dorothy firmly believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right. Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Damascus Church of Holiness. In 1974, she joined Kennerly Temple C.O.G.I.C. and later became a faithful member of San Francisco Temple C.O.G.I.C., where she cherished her church family. On Tuesday, August 27, 2025, Dorothy peacefully transitioned at Delmar Gardens Nursing Facility, surrounded by her loving family, confident in her faith that the Lord had prepared a home for her, eternal in the heavens. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Howard Dirksen McGrew; her parents, Connie and Albert; and her brothers, Albert, Jody, Robert, and George. She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters ~ Pamela McGrew, Paula (Reginald) Alston, Yvette Ewing (Monroe) and Wrenetha D.
