Emma Jean Dennis' Obituary
Emma Jean Dennis was born on October 25, 1933 in Abbeville, Mississippi. She
was the fifth of ten children born to Granison and Epsie Mathis.
Her parents and siblings, Charles, John Walker "Walk", Joe Willie "Joe Bill",
Felton, Gracie, Maggie, Ruby and Faristeen all preceded her in death.
Emma received her education through the Abbeville School System.
She confessed her life to Christ early in life. She joined Gert Jo Dennis in Holy
Matrimony on December 27, 1959. No children were born of this union.
Emma later moved to Saint Louis, Missouri and joined Zion Travelers Missionary
Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member. She later joined Greater St.
Mark Family Church, where she remained a faithful member until her passing.
Emma dedicated years of service in Hospitality, employed by the Sheraton Hotel
until she retired in 1982. She earned the "Employee of the Month" Award
because of her dedication. She would continue in life, caregiving for friends and
loved ones, which was her true passion.
Emma was a loving person with a heart of gold and was kind to everyone. She
loved to cook and dance. She enjoyed attending the Mathis family reunions that
date back to 1975 and dancing with her family. She loved to shop, travel and go
to church. She loved the kids and was instrumental in caring for and nurturing
the many generations of her nieces and nephews.
