Hattie Armstead Moore's Obituary
Hattie L. Armstead Moore was my angel. She was my mother, my father, my sister,
my brother and above all, my absolutely best friend. I will miss our Saturday drives,
listening to church with her on Sundays, reminiscing about the past, laughing at
things that were not funny but we were silly that way.
I will miss her telling me she loved me every day and asking me did I love her. I will
miss giving her a kiss every night before she went to sleep and every morning when
she woke up. I will miss reading her mail to her, because she had lost her sight, I will
miss pushing her around in her wheelchair because walking was something almost
impossible for her to do anymore. I guess what I am saying is “I WILL MISS MY
MOTHER MORE THAN ANYONE WILL EVER KNOW.”
God called mom home on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. She fought a good fight but
God had a task for her that needed to be completed. I know she will be in good
hands until I see her again.
“Ms. Hattie” as she was affectionately known graduated from Hadley Tech, now
Vashon High School in 1950 and took a number of vocational classes to expand her
array of knowledge as she pursued career opportunities in the field of medical and
hospital administration.
Mom was also a devoted Christian who truly loved the Lord and would do anything
for anybody even if that meant giving her last. She attended various churches
throughout St. Louis (Antioch Baptist, Union Tabernacle, Lively Stone and Good
Shepard, just to name a few).
She wed Floyd Marshall Moore in June 1985. Floyd preceded her in death in
September 1991. She was also preceded in death by her father, John Armstead, her
mother Callie Armstead and her seven siblings, brothers, Lawrence and I. D. and her
sister Mentrell, Carlene, Ella, Ethel Mae, and Classie; three nephews, Ronald,
Johnny and Arthur, along with one niece, Venita.
Mom leaves to cherish her memories: her three lovely grandchildren ~ Annetria,
Jarrod (Shiloh) and Karmin (Marcus); eight great grandchildren ~ Dante, Mardell,
Kielan, Jaelan, Lael, Camilah, Nia and Ian. She also leaves behind five great-great
grandchildren, five nieces ~ Deborah, Barbara, LaJuana, Nicole, and Connie; three
nephews ~ Carl, Lawrence Jr. and Lawrence II; and her “other son” ~ Randall
Lockette.
Additionally she leaves to mourn her passing a number of beloved friends, former co
-workers and the people at her beloved dialysis center. Plus all those who would
have become her friends had they had the opportunity to meet her. No one was a
stranger to my mother. You were a friend from the beginning to the end.
And then there’s me, her son, Gaylord Armstead. I will hopefully continue to make
her proud and to live my life with the same caring, giving spirit, open heart and
passion in which she lived hers. Rest gently in heaven my dear angel.
Oh, by the way did I mention, I WILL MISS MY MOTHER. MAYBE MORE THAN I EVEN
KNOW.
