Hattie Lucita Jones' Obituary
Hattie “Barker” Jones was born on March 22, 1945 in Providence, Ken
tucky. She was the third born of six children to the union of Leslie Barker,
Sr. and Irene Barker. Hattie was preceded in death by both of her parents
and three siblings, Molly Byndom, Leslie Barker Jr. and Spurgana Watson.
Hattie was a proud alumni of the Saint Louis Public School System. She
graduated Sumner High School in 1963. She proudly dawned the “Maroon
and White” and spoke of her high-school experiences as if Sumner were a
HBCU, historically black college and university. After high-school, Hattie
attended the St. Louis Community College System, where she earned an
Associate Degree.
Hattie began her professional career with Southwestern Bell and later
transitioned to AT&T after the subsequent sale and merger. Her
career in the Telecommunications Industry spanned for over thirty
wonderful years, where she learned, grew and developed as a team
member in a myriad of roles and capacities.
Hattie was a proud resident of Clayton, Missouri, where she served on the
board of the Wellington Arms Condo Association Board. She loved
music, travel, shopping and enjoyed spending time participating in the
extracurricular sports activities of her nieces and nephews. Her favorite
sports were tennis, baseball, NFL and NCAA College Football. She was a
huge advocate of youth sports and past supporter of the University City
Sports Association.
Hattie departed this life on February 1, 2024, of natural causes. She leaves
to cherish her life and memory: sister ~ Phyllis Thomas; brother ~
Anthony Barker; nieces ~ Sabrina Byndom, Ave Buie, Gena Watson,
Tamara Clay, Cassandra Barker and Irene Barker; nephews ~ Leslie
Thomas (Denise), Calvin Thomas III, Clinton Barker; and life-long friend
~ June Williams.
Aunt Hattie is loved and celebrated by over twenty great nieces and nephews
that she guided as a grandmother, along with a host of friends, classmates,
co-workers and neighbors in her community of Clayton.
Hattie will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
