Hazel Meredith's Obituary
Hazel Meredith was born on April 20, 1955 in Shefield, Alabama. She was the second of three children. Her mother, Lucy Jones, older brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Cynthia) Meredith preceded her in death. She accepted Christ at an early age at Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Her spiritual foundation would set the stage for a lifelong relationship with her Heavenly Father. In 1965, Hazel and her family relocated to St. Louis, Missouri. She was educated in the St. Louis Public School System. In 1977, she continued her education and graduated from Soldan High School. Over the years, Hazel maintained a reputation as a dutiful employee at Community Savings and Loan Bank, GMAC and Take Care. She even went beyond the call of duty to volunteer with the Missouri Counsel for the Blind. In 1992, Hazel followed in the footsteps of her mother and became a faithful member of Abundant Life Fellowship Church, under the leadership of Bishop Matthew Ferguson. Her compassionate heart prompted her to help those in need. In previous years, she served in the Prison Ministry and Seniors Ministry. She often greeted members with a pleasant smile and soft spoken “hello”. Hazel was oftentimes quiet in public, however, she developed long-lasting friendships with her church family, natural family and community. Some of her favorite pastimes included sharing delicious meals and meaningful conversations with those she loved. Although Hazel did not have any biological children, she treasured being a god-mother to Valerie Warren, whom she affectionately called “Lil Val”.
On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Hazel rested from all her labors to be joined with her Heavenly Father. Hazel leaves to cherish her memory: a loving brother, Calvin Jones; three nephews, Robert (Deon) Meredith, Todd Meredith, Charlton Jones; two great nieces, D’ Nejah Meredith, Khylia Meredith; one great nephew, Robert Meredith, III and a host of relatives, friends and church family.
