Jackie Ann Smith's Obituary
Jackie A. Smith was born in Hollandale, Mississippi August the 24th
1952. Her parents were Cleveland Smith and Alice Harris Smith. Jackie’s
father, an over the road truck driver, settled in Saint Louis, Missouri
shortly after her birth. Her baptism and confirmation were recorded at
Visitation Catholic Church, in North Saint Louis where she attended
elementary school.
Jackie completed high school at St. Alphonsus-Rock High School in early
1970’s. She finished an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, at
Florissant Valley Community College in the late 70’s. Her lightning fast
key stroke speed gained the interest of the Department of Agriculture.
She relocated to Columbia Missouri and began work. Jackie left the
Department of Agriculture after one year, to begin her life of service to
the Lord. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Harris
Stowe State University, in the later 1980’s, and began working to
educate children in Catholic Schools in impoverished and rural
communities. Still, she felt a greater calling for Pastoral Ministry. Her
failing health increased her quest to know more about how she could
better serve God. In the late 1990’s, Jackie received her Master’s
Degree in Theology from Xavier University, New Orleans, Louisiana. She
worked tirelessly for many years serving parish churches of St. Marks
Church Parish, Holy Angels Church Parish Kinloch, Missouri, St. Augustine
Church Parish and surrounding communities, teaching the Bible, and
introducing new faith members joining the church to the (RCIA) Rite of
Christian Initiation for adults.
After 20 years and continued health struggles, Jackie was forced to
retire from the physical work, however, she never stopped serving her
Lord. Her determination, and unwavering faith to serve God gave Jackie
the strength, to set up a phone line; where people in need of prayer and
healing would call-in and ask her to pray. She was truly a powerful prayer
warrior, and servant of the Lord.
Jackie was surrounded by her family as she completed her journey
home to the Lord to receive her wings on August 3, 2022, at approximately
5:00pm.
She leaves behind: one sister; one great niece ~ Joy; two nephews ~
Roy and Ryan; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
