Jennie Rose Smith's Obituary
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16)
Jennie Rose Smith of St. Louis, Missouri transitioned to Heaven on
Friday, April 19, 2024. If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved (Romans 10:9). Jennie confessed Jesus as her Lord and was
baptized at St. Stephens Lutheran Church as a young adult. Jennie was
born September 22, 1946 in Perthshire, Mississippi to the late Willie
Mae Keel (Franklin). She attended St. Louis Public Schools. She married
John M. Smith, II in 1964 and to their union was born John Matthew
Smith (III) and Jennine Nicole Smith (Tobias), who preceded her in
death.
Jennie was known for her quick wit, love and devotion to her family. She
raised all of us in some fashion from her sisters, her own children,
grandchildren and any child that would cross her path. Even at any
given basketball game, it wouldn’t be uncommon to walk in and see
her (as the “baby whisperer”) with a random baby sitting on her lap. She
was such an inviting and loving person that people trusted. She never
met a stranger and was an adventurous soul that became a solo world
traveler with flights and cruises to tropical destinations. She sacrificed
much for her family to make sure every Christmas, Easter and daily life
was an experience better than she had growing up. She was a devoted
wife of 50 years that had a vision as a mother to give her children
educational opportunities and experiences in life that her and her
husband were unable to have.
Jennie was a dreamer and visionary that held many positions from
events coordinator, housewife, waitress, to janitorial engineer. With
dignity and grace, she worked to support her family yet nothing was
more important than being a good wife, mother, sister, and grandmother.
Jennie leaves to cherish her memories: son ~ John Matthew (Leslie);
sisters ~ Myra (Casey) Wesley and Teresa (Deanel) Trout; five grandchildren ~ John (IV), Jalik, Olivia, Jai, and Ava; niece ~ Bethany; and
nephew ~ Trevor; cousin ~ Floyd; and host of loved family and friends.
