Joseph H. Davenport's Obituary
Joseph Hugo Davenport Sr. was the eldest of three children born to
Hugo and Clothilde Davenport, on April 25, 1956. He earned his
heavenly wings on December 22, 2017.
During his early years, Joseph was educated in Catholic schools, St.
Barbara and Providence. He later transferred to St. Louis Public
Schools and graduated from Soldan High School in 1975. Joseph
went to Northeast Missouri State University during his freshman
year. He later attended Forest Park Community College.
In 1976, Joseph met his soulmate, Sheryl Ann (as he affectionately
called her) at a dance at Washington University. They married in
September 1977 and recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. To
the union Joseph Jr. and Stephen were born.
Joseph was honorably discharged from the United States Marine
Corps in 1981. After returning to St. Louis from duty in California,
Joseph worked for Monsanto and St. Louis Public Schools as
a stationary engineer. He retired from the Justice Center for the
City of St. Louis as the Building Maintenance and Operations
Supervisor two weeks ago. His education also included certificates
from Ranken Technical School in auto repair, carpentry, HVAC
and industrial technology. Joseph served as a trustee on the PublicSchool
Retirement Board and the city-wide board that certifies
stationary engineers. He was a proud member of Operating
Engineers Local 148.
Joseph is survived by his devoted wife Sheryl, his sons Joseph Jr.
and Stephen (Dakota); three grandchildren, Piper, Yanna and
Stephen Jr.; two sisters, Monique (Christopher) and Toni; a
brother, Chester; two sister-in law, Dianna and Jennifer (William
Randle); four nieces and one nephew, six great nieces , two great
nephews and a multitude of friends who adored him. He will be
missed by, his Chicago family, Louise Trice (Mama Lou), John,
Laura, and Lamese; his camping family, his motorcycle family, his
golf family, and his Gateway kids.
