Mr. Joseph Zanders' Obituary
Joseph Zanders passed away from this life on to glory on Friday, August 24,
2018. He was born on March 12, 1932 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Richard A.
Zanders and Loretta Bess.
As a young man, he joined the United States Army and while stationed near
Lafayette, Louisiana, he met the love of his life, Mary Allen Martin. From this
union came six lovely children: Vickie, Gary, Cathy, Larry, Joseph, Jr., and
Sonja, all born in various parts of the country and abroad.
Joseph served in the US Army for 21 years, including the Korean and Vietnam
War. When his military career ended, he settled in St. Louis, Missouri and he
and Mary raised their children. After the military, which included many honors
and a decorated military career, he became employed with McDonnell
Douglas Corporation and remained there for 21 years.
To Joseph’s family, he was known as: Dad, Gramps, Zanders (to his wife),
Uncle Zanders, and Chief. He was an early riser and found solace in the quiet
of the morning, reading his newspaper, and providing for his wife and family.
Joseph’s presence was always made known to family and friends and his
smile was irreplaceable. He was both loved and respected by many.
Joseph committed his life to Christ. He leaves behind to cherish his memory
and celebrate his life: his wife of 63 years, Mary Martin Zanders; his children ~
Vickie (Fred) Ingleton, Gary (Michelle) Zanders, Cathy (George) Daniels, Larry
(Tonya) Zanders, Joseph Zanders, Jr., and Sonja (Levi McCoy) Walls; 17
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Odelia George and Mary
(Darrell) St. Julien; brother-in-law, Adam (Mary) Martin; in-laws, Alice Williams
and Mary Tezno; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by: his mother, Loretta Bess; father, Richard A.
Zanders; sisters-in-law, Theresa (Joseph) Green, Sr., Verna Martin, and Anne
Martin; brothers-in-law, Leroy Martin and Alton George; and one niece, Cheryl
Green McKinley.
