Lamont H. Ross' Obituary
May 10, 2024, on a calm Friday evening, Lamont, at the age of 69, peacefully left his
body to be present with the Lord with his family by his side.
Lamont Herbert Ross was born October 12, 1954 in St Louis Missouri to the late
Ernest (Jack) and Irene Ware Ross. Lamont, also affectionately called “Monty” was
the youngest of the crew that grew up together under the watchful eye of the family on
Newberry Terrace, St Louis, Mo. He spent his elementary years attending Washington
Elementary and playing with the neighbors on that street. Later he attended Sumner
High School, but transferred to Soldan High School, where he could explore the half
day technology programs offered at O'Fallon High School. It was there that he found
his passion for computer technology programs.
After high school, Lamont attended Edison Brothers Data Processing School. With
these skills under his belt he quickly landed, what became one of his favorite jobs, at
City Hospital. While at City Hospital, he continued growing his passion of data
processing at St Louis University. Sadly, Lamont was part of the group of employees
that lost their jobs when the hospital shut its doors unexpectedly. Lamont quickly
rebounded and was able to move on and work for Care Cab in the Transportation
Department. He stayed there for several years, until he received a call to come work
as the lead dispatcher for the Special School District (SSD), where he made many
friends. Lamont began experiencing mobility health issues and chose to retire from
SSD during the pandemic in 2020.
Lamont’s stories and hilarious sense of humor was ever present. His winning smile lit
up the room. Lamont enjoyed reading, music, especially jazz and R&B, working on his
computer and video games. He was a kind and gentle man. He had a brilliant mind
and memory. Even during his final hours, his intelligence was astonishing. He was an
impeccable recordkeeper. He was the one you called if you forgot a friend or family
member’s name or birthday. He was very generous, especially to those closest to
him. With his health declining, he still made sure his regular acknowledgement of
birthdays was accomplished. Lamont never had children, but his nieces and nephews
were his treasures. He playfully nicknamed himself, “Uncle Oatmeal, No Butter”.
t is significant to share that Lamont found the Lord within the past year. So much so,
that he recently requested to be baptized. His wish was granted and he was baptized
on April 11, 2024 by Rev. Gwenndolyn Burns of Spirit of Love Church.
Lamont was preceded in death by Ernest (Jack) Ross, father, Irene Ware Ross, mother
and Ernest J. Ross Jr (Linda Ross) his brother.
Our sweet joyful Lamont will truly be missed by all, especially by those that enjoyed
those enlightening conversations on the phone. He leaves to cherish him, Joyce Ross
Moore (Jimmy Moore), sister, Cozette Ross Jones, sister, Pauline Pettiford, sister,
Lucille Saunders, sister, Linda Ross, sister in law, Blaine C Ware, cousin (brother). He
also leaves his nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and many, many friends, inclusive of
a special friend, Monica “Monnie” During Lamont's final days, he formed a beautiful
bond of trust with Nurse Darcie and CNA Jesse. Their attention to detail combined
with their loving nature was also such a comfort to our family. Lamont peacefully
transitioned on May 10, 2024 at 8:20 p.m. with his family and his two favorite care
givers by his side.
