Larken Alexander Jr.'s Obituary
Larken Alexander, Jr. was born the seventh child to Larken Alexander, Sr. and Magnolia Alexander who preceded him in death on February 1, 1961. He gave his life to Christ at an early age, grew up in the Carondelet neighborhood spending the majority of his adult life in South Saint Louis with family and friends who called him by “Junebug”. June was a drummer in a band called “Mechanics on Duty”, he played softball with a team and they would have Barbecues in the park and folks would come from all around to watch the band and eat his BBQ. He played soccer and hockey in the streets of Carondelet. He was outgoing and loved by all his friends and the neighborhood. That’s how he established the name Junebug. Larken attended Cleveland High School in Carondelet, where he received his high school diploma. While attending Cleveland, June was being observed by college coaches with the anticipation of playing college football, but was injured and forced to quit. Larken worked the majority of his employment at Chrysler Corporation for seventeen years, at the Chrysler Plant in Fenton, Missouri as a Painter. Moving forward in his career path he developed an interest in the field of Cosmetology with the ambition of establishing his own business. After attending cosmetology school, Larken acquired a license in Cosmetology, going beyond to receive certification to instruct. Larken was known for his infectious and vibrant laugh, sense of style and he was an all around stylish, cool person. He shared the joy of laughter with his charismatic style and his love for cooking. His cooking earned him an award from the 100 Black Men for his delicious barbecue sauce. June was an advocate for civil rights, he also attended the Million Man March in Washing-ton D.C. in October of 1995. When asked how would you describe Larken, some would say he was a giving person with a heart for the elderly and kids. He loved his entire family. Larken’s memories and legacy will be forever be celebrated by: his loving daughter ~ Magnolia English Alexander of Saint Louis, Missouri; six siblings ~ Vivian Lowe, Joylene Anderson (Napolean), Valvetta Curry (James), Sarah Spencer, Bernice Brooks all of Saint Louis, Missouri and Alonzo Alexander (Vernita) of Maricopa, Arizona; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
