Lillie Portis' Obituary
Lillie Catherine Portis was born December 12, 1941, in Clarksdale, Mississippi to
the union of Jimmy Lee Rowry and Rosie Lee Allen.
Lillie was educated in the Public School System and graduated from Coahoma
High School. She attended Coahoma College, and Forest Park Community College
where she graduated. She worked at several places in childhood education and
several other jobs to make ends meet.
She confessed her hope in Christ at an early age at Liberty Baptist Church. She
was a very dedicated and active person in her church, which was Zion Lutheran
Church which she loved dearly.
Eventually, love found its way into Lillie’s life and she married, Ronald Portis, Sr. in
1965. She came into this union with a son, Darryl Anderson. In addition to this
union three children were born; Ronald Portis, Jr., Frederick Portis and Mahatma
Portis.
In her spare time Lillie enjoyed helping others at the food pantry and service work
and she belonged to several organization throughout the years.
Lillie Portis gained her eternal wings on Saturday, July 16, 2022, in the loving
comfort of her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosie Walton;
fathers, Jimmy Rowry and Wade Walton; brothers, Jimmy Rowry, Jr., Larry and
Robert Rowry; and husband, Ronald Portis, Sr.
Lillie leaves to cherish her loving memories: her children, Darryl Anderson, Ronald
Portis, Jr. (Cassietta), Frederick Portis (Semaj) and Mahatma Portis (Leslie);
brothers, Ellis Rowry, Kenny Lackey, Wiley Walton and Wade Walton, Jr.; sisters,
Jackie Robinson, Annette Robinson, Shirley Lewis and Florida Roberts;
grandchildren, Candis Lardge, Jasmin Reynolds (Terrell), Ronald Portis III.,
Tahtiana Portis, Autumn Portis, Jalen Portis, Mahatma Portis, Xavier Portis and
Solomon Portis; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
