Mary Louise Daugherty's Obituary
Mary Louise Daugherty was born during the fall of 1948 on October the
16th in Bentonia, Mississippi to Jessie L. Watts and Annie Ree Lewis. In
the spring of 1954, the family relocated to a small town in St Louis,
Missouri called Kinloch.
Upon arrival to Kinloch, the family reconnected with other relatives that
had already made the trip to Saint Louis and began to build better lives
for their families. Mary attended Southern Mission Baptist Church
under her uncle, Rev. Yate. Mary Watts was educated in the Kinloch
School District and would later attended the Prestigious St. Louis
Beauty College. On January 4, 1966 James Albert Daugherty,
twenty-one, and Mary Louise Watts, seventeen, entered into Holy
Matrimony and to that union three children were born: Vonceal Albert,
Robin Renee and Kevin Bernard. Mom and Dad eventually divorced
sometime during the year of 1975 and with the support of her family
and close friends she protected, trained and provided for her children.
Louise “Lou”, as she was affectionately known by some, worked at the
old EJ Korvettes Department Store, Smith's Overall Company, 905
Liquor Store and the well known, Threaded Needles/Cotton Club. Here,
her ability to deal with the most difficult patrons made her a club house
favorite. Ms. Louise was also a proud member of the Kinloch Lady's of
Distinction Social Club. Mom would eventually retire in good standing
from the Ferguson-Florissant School District.
On May 25, 2019 mom would go under hospice care at the loving home
of her only daughter Robin, who would become our mother’s primary
caregiver until June 19, 2019 at 3:00 a.m.; when Mary Louise
Daugherty transcended peacefully from this life into eternity.
Her mother, Annie Wilkerson; father, Jessie L. Watts; and four siblings,
Eddie James, Otis, Ozel and Steve preceded her in death.
