Monique Davenport's Obituary
Monique Acenia was born to the late Clothilde Morrisseau and the late Hugo Davenport on
September 9, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri. Monique was the youngest of four children, Joseph
Davenport, Toni Davenport, and Chester McCoy. She was proud of her Haitian ancestry.
Monique professed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at early age and was baptized in 1961 at
St. Barbara. Monique was member of St. Augustine (formerly St. Barbara), Union Baptist Church
of Chesterfield, and most recently Olivet Missionary Baptist Church. Monique was a faithful
servant and worshipper, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, and a trained
member of the Stephens Ministry. Monique loved to worship and continued to grow spiritually.
She loved signing up for courses and working towards furthering her Christian knowledge.
Monique completed her primary education at several Catholic schools and graduated from
Soldan High School (Class of 1979). You could not even try to talk about her beloved Soldan
Tigers without her shutting the entire conversation down. Monique earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in Chemistry from Lindenwood University and a Master’s of Teaching from
Washington University in St. Louis.
Monique worked as a chemistry lab instructor at Washington University and taught chemistry at
Kirkwood High School. If you were assigned to Ms. Davenport’s chemistry class, “You were
going to learn some chemistry!” This mindset led to Monique earning the honor of being
selected as “Teacher of the Year” for the Missouri Association of Colleges for Teacher
Education in 2001. Monique went on to have a very successful career in pharmaceutical sales
where she won numerous sales awards. She was a founding member of the St. Louis Chapter
of the National Sales Network and mentored countless young professionals who wanted to
enter the industry. She worked tirelessly until her health began to fail her and then continued
to work by tutoring new students at Harris-Stowe State University. Monique was determined to
impact learners!
Monique loved to travel and kept her bags packed and ready to go! Most recently, Monique was
talking about her desire to travel to Paris once she got well. She was determined to get to the
Eiffel Tower. When she was not traveling, Monique loved to cook and was an excellent cook.
What was her specialty? Everything! It was not uncommon for her to cook an entire feast and
just show up and drop it off for your family. And let’s not forget Monique was also a musician.
She was bad with a pair of drumsticks, and she would jam! Living, giving, and doing were
definitely her love languages and she did so very generously and well.
Monique is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joseph Davenport. She leaves to
cherish her memories: her sister ~ Toni L Davenport; her sister-in-law ~ Sheryl Davenport; her
brother ~ Chester McCoy (the late Nancy Peterson); three nephews ~ Anthony Roberts IV,
Joseph H. Davenport, Jr. and Stephen Davenport, Sr. (Dakota); two nieces ~ Meghan McCoy
and Hannah Diop (Malick); four great nephews ~ Brandon Roberts, Louis Diop, Stephen
Davenport, Jr. and Olmedo Nazati; five great nieces ~ Iris Roberts, Piper and Yanna Davenport,
