Myra Phillips' Obituary
Mrs. Myra Phillips was born on August 13, 1950, in
St. Louis, Missouri to the late Ollie and Pearline Jones. Myra
was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Amelia Marie
Smith; and one brother, Ollie Jones, Jr.
Myra Phillips joined and was baptized at Mt. Beulah M.B.
Church at an early age. Later, she joined the First M.B.
Church of Kinloch and went through the New Membership
Class under Rev. Mary Davis. She loved her church and
church family. She was a proud member of the CWFC
Ministry under the leadership of Rev. Rosemary Conrod.
Myra graduated from Central High School and went on to
attend Flo Valley Community College after retiring. It has
been said that Myra missed her calling to be an Early
Education Teacher, as she was blessed with the gift to reach
young children. She did however, put those skills to the test
and to great use by homeschooling her great grandson, Terry
Paige III during the pandemic school year in 2020-2021.Myra
worked for the McDonnell Douglas Corp. in St. Louis,
Missouri for over twenty years as an executive secretary. She
also worked part-time for Lane Bryant for over fifteen years
as a sales associate. She loved fashion and people, so it
allowed her to spend hours talking to people about fashion
at work. However, her true loves were the Lord, family,
friends and flowers. If you spent any time with her those
subjects would eventually come up.
Myra was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Elford Phillips on
May 27, 1970. To this union were four children, Kimberly
(Neicy), Elford (Mane), Alphonso (Phonso), and Anthony. She
was very family oriented and believed it was important for
her children to do well in school, learn to cook, clean a home
properly, take care of themselves and know the Lord at an
early agShe instilled an appreciation of flowers into her oldest son
that still strives to this day. She used to say that she loved
to see the all the colors of beautiful flowers mixed together.
She tended to her gardens with the same focus, love and
dedication she used on her own children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren. She could literally spend hours
outside raking leaves, pruning flowers or finishing up one of
the countless DIY projects she was known to undertake if
nobody stopped her or persuaded her to finish it up
another time. She was a very loving, organized and resourceful
woman. She took on the responsibility of helping raising
her grandchildren, Pierre Rapheal Phillips and Nicole
Latrece Phillips more like a mom than a grandmother. It’s
often been said she was more mom than grandmother to
them. You could see this especially at Christmas time.
Christmas was her favorite times of the year. She was the
type of person that went all out decorating for that holiday.
She had three Christmas trees and so many Santa Clauses
or angel decorations that even she did not know how many
she had because she always seemed to find more somewhere.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her beloved husband,
Elford Phillips, her children, daughter, Kimberly Davis, sons,
Elford Davis, Alphonso Phillips (Aesha), and Anthony
Phillips. Three brothers, Edward Jones, John Jones, and
Peter Jones, four sisters, Patricia Guise, Sarah Calmese,
Paulette Jones and Francis Jones, seven grandchildren,
and five great-grandchildren. As well as a host of loving
nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, including her loving
and lifelong grade school friends, Barbara, Dolly and Mae.
As well as Sandi, Audrey and Mary, who were her steadfast
prayer partners, sisters and confidants, especially as she
got closer to the end of her life journey.e.
