Nathanial Shabazz's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we gather to remember and celebrate the life of
Nathaniel Ali Shabazz, a beloved husband, father, brother and friend. Born
on September 14, 1941 in Jackson, Mississippi. Nathaniel lived a life
marked by quiet strength and generosity, until his peaceful passing on May
4, 2025 in Saint Louis, Missouri at the age of eighty-three.
Nathaniel was a man of many talent and pursuits. He spent his formative
years in Champaign, Illinois, where he attended Central High School.
Following his high school graduation, he answered the call to serve his
country by joining the U.S. Army. After his honorable service, Nathaniel
attended Parkland College, where he studied nursing.
In his younger days, Nathaniel’s entrepreneurial spirit shone through when
he owned a clothing store. This venture not only showcased his sense of
style but also his ability to connect with people, a gift he carried throughout
his life. In 2005, Nathaniel found love and companionship with Patricia A.
Shabazz, whom he shared a marriage filled with laughter and cherished
moments.
Nathaniel, you were loved deeply and your absence leaves a void that
cannot be filled. You will be truly missed and your spirit will live on in the
hearts of those you touched.
Nathaniel was preceded by his loving parents, Maybell Butler and Nathan
Butler, Sr.; his sister, Mary D. Morris and his son, Vernon L. Jones, Sr. He
leaves behind a legacy through: his wife ~ Patricia A. Shabazz; his sister ~
Minnie P. Turner (Robert); brother ~ Robert C. Butler (Deloris); children ~
Nicholas Butler, Charles Brown and Crystalleshell Tate (Andrew); three
grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
