Mrs. Nora Lee Turner's Obituary
Nora Lee Turner was born in Macon, Mississippi on February
25, 1935 to the union of Noah Hawkins Cavette and Frankie Lee
Dunn. She was the oldest of seven children. Nora accepted Christ
early in her life while attending the United Methodist Church in
Macon, Mississippi. Nora attended Macon schools, where she met
the love of her life, Fred Turner. She graduated from Macon
Colored High School in 1953. Nora and Fred Turner married in
1953 and soon after they welcomed their daughter, Barbara, into
the world. Two years later, their son, Kerry Anthony, was born.
Nora worked as a teacher at Macon Elementary School after high
school graduation for one year. She then moved to Saint Louis,
Missouri with her husband, Fred, and was a stay-at-home mom.
When her children were old enough, she began working part-time as
a domestic worker. She attended Kelly Business School, was hired
by Target Stores and was quickly promoted to the jewelry
department manager.
Sadly, in 1986, Fred and Nora lost their only son, Kerry. Shortly
after the passing of their son, Fred accepted a job in Atlanta,
Georgia. The move to Atlanta allowed them to start a new life
after tragedy.
Nora worked part-time at Bailey, Banks and Biddle in Atlanta
before retiring. After retiring, she and Fred took on the
responsibility of raising their great-granddaughter, Mariah. Nora
enjoyed this new role immensely.
Nora was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great
grandmother. Her family could always depend on her for
guidance and support. She often traveled to see her grandchildren
participate in their activities. It was important to Nora to have
a clean home and she decorated it beautifully. She enjoyed
gardening, playing the piano, singing in church choirs and
sports, particularly football and basketball. Her favorite teams
were the Dallas Cowboys, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los
Angeles Lakers. At the time of her passing, she was a member
of St. Ann Catholic Church of Marietta, Georgia. She was also
a member of the Red Hat Society, a founding member of the
Maconite National Scholarship Organization Inc. and attended
Bible Study Fellowship.
Nora lived in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband until her
daughter brought them both back to Saint Louis to live with
her in June of 2023. She enjoyed being able to spend more
time with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nora passed away, but her family will always remember her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Noah Hawkins
Cavette; her mother, Frankie Lee Dunn; her son, Kerry Anthony
Turner and her brothers, Robert Earl, Frank Elliott, Jerry
Edward and Richard Dunn-Cavette. She is survived by: her
