Ollie Stallings' Obituary
Mrs. Ollie Mae Stallings was born on April 13, 1927 in Macon,
Mississippi to the union of Charlie Brooks and Estell Brooks (Nee Roby).
She was the fifth child out of seven children born to this union.
Her parents, brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Ollie received her formal education in Noxubee County Schools in
Macon, Mississippi. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mathew
Stallings on July 22, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri. Three children were
born to this union, Olivia, Matthew and Kenneth. She was a
hardworking and dedicated employee of Deaconess Hospital for over
thirty years, retiring in 1989.
Ollie was a true champion of all the values of our Christian Faith. She
lived in service to God, her family, and others, and read her bible daily
for insight and wisdom. A person of prayer, faith and devotion to the
word of God, Ollie shared these gifts as a witness to Christ with all
those she encountered. Ollie accepted Christ at an early age and was
baptized at Mount Moriah under the leadership of the late Jimmy
Edmond of Macon, Mississippi. On moving to St. Louis, she became a
member 0f Galilee Baptist Church and in 1954 she transferred her
membership to the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church under the late
Reverend W.S. Jones. The Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church’s
present leadership is provided by Reverend Donald Ray McNeal. In
2015 she was a Woman’s Day honoree for being a church member for
over fifty years.
Ollie departed this life in love, peace and serenity on May 29, 2021.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty years,
Matthew Stallings, and her beloved son, Matthew Bernard Stallings.
She is survived by: her daughter, Olivia; her son, Kenneth (Lorraine);
grandson, Kenneth (Ariel); granddaughters, Shannon and Sydney;
great-granddaughter, Olivia James; sisters-in-law, Bessie Brooks and
Marie Stallings; and the adoptive son of her heart, Jimmie Cook; as well
as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
