Reginald V. Van Hook's Obituary
Reginald was one of four children (oldest son) born to the late Alvin Van Hook and
Cevoria (Hall) Van Hook, on May 31, 1958 in Saint Louis, Missouri at Homer G. Phillip
Hospital.
Reginald attended Gunloch and Mallickrodt Grade School and graduated from
Northwest High School; later he began attending Florissant Valley Community College.
Reginald moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked as a chef. He loved
cooking and watching his family enjoy eating his food.
Reginald played football for a brief moment with the Northwest High School Blue
Devils team. However, his passion was blowing the Trumpet for the Northwest Band
and Concert Choir.
Reginald relocated back to Saint Louis, Missouri and started working at General
Motors, where he retired from after thirty years of employment.
Although Reginald was known for going from zero to ten in a matter of seconds, it was
later followed with a sincere apology and tears. He loved reading the newspaper,
watching television all night and also enjoyed the Saint Louis Baseball Cardinals.
Reginald was not only a “momma’s boy”, he loved his daughter, Cheri, family, friends
and protected his twin sisters, Karen and Sharon, as if he were their dad. He’d always
tell the guys “Those are my sisters! Don’t mess with them!”
Reginald started attending church months ago on a regular basis, despite residing in
a nursing home.
Reginald depended on his sister, Karen for everything! He’d tell everyone “That’s my
sister! And whatever she says is right!” She’d visit him on a regular basis, taking him
snacks, sodas, cigarettes, clothes and anything else he thought he needed or wanted.
On August 30, 2022, Karen received the most devasting phone call a family could
receive. “Your brother has passed away.” I’m so grateful I took my brother to
Cleveland, Ohio to his last family reunion.
Reginald leaves to cherish: one daughter ~ Cheri Hunter; two grandchildren ~ Derice
Williams and Daija Woods; two great grandchildren ~ Kinslei Williams and Harmony
Williams; three sisters ~ Sharon Van Hook-Steele, Karen Van Hook and Jennifer
Wright Austin; five brothers ~ Cedric Van Hook, Alvinlyn Wright, Andre Collins, Antonio
(Daniele) Collins and Derrick Taylor (Latoria) of Saint Louis, Missouri; one uncle ~
Acive Van Hook (Ercelean); one aunt ~ Tinnie Hall of Colorado; and a host of cousins,
nieces, nephews and friends.
