Roger Lamar Nance's Obituary
The life journey of Mr. Roger Lamar Nance began in Saint Louis, Missouri on
December 11, 1949. Being born to the union of the late John Herman and the
late Mary Jo Nance. He was preceded in death by four siblings: sisters, Cecilia
Carruth, Marilyn A. Rush and Angela R. Nance along with his brother and best
friend in life, Richard L. Nance.
Roger L. Nance was formally educated within the Saint Louis Public Schools
system. He attended Columbia Elementary, where he excelled in mathematics
and was a member of the school’s Gymnastics team. Roger attended Soldan
High School, where he was a sound student and active member of the Soldan
Marching Band. Roger enjoyed watching sports, he was a huge Saint Louis
Cardinal baseball fan and in his youth enjoyed experimenting on assembling
and disassembling toys and being a little ‘mischievous’ in the neighborhood
and with his siblings.
Upon graduation, Roger began working for Kroger Grocery Stores as a produce
stocker and cashier. While working for Kroger, Roger received his draft
notification and ultimately served his country as an United States Army Soldier
during the Vietnam War. Upon completing of his military service Roger
received and Honorable Discharge from the military and returned to his
employment at Kroger Grocery until choosing to move on to work for several
office cleaning enterprises.
Roger was married to Linda Cobbs of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Roger was known to many as one who loved to listen to his ‘quiet storm’
music, enjoyed working ‘seek and find’ puzzles, watching sports and old
Westerns on his T.V. “Uncle Roger”, as many called him, had a sweet tooth
that he enjoyed feeding with candies and deserts that he loved. Roger was a
quiet man who lived his life the way he desired to live. Roger loved his family
but mostly enjoyed being to himself and was at peace with the life he lived.
Roger passed from this life on October 29, 2020. He leaves to cherish his
beloved memory: three sisters ~ Donna (Dorris) Strong, Jacqueline Dabney,
and Dianna (Edward) Wade; two brothers ~ Pheneas Nance and Keith Nance;
one sister-in-law ~ Deborah Nance all of Saint Louis, Missouri; thirteen
nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, great-great nephew and
nieces; along with many other relatives and friends who loved him so very
deeply.
