Rosie Edwards' Obituary
Rosie, also known as “Missy Boo”, was born on August 19, 1940 to the union of Eugene Spencer and Corine Strange Spencer in Greenville, Mississippi. She received her high school diploma from Coleman High School where she met James Lee Edwards who preceded her in death. After graduation she married and joined James Lee Edwards, Sr. with their son James Lee Edwards, Jr. in St. Louis, Missouri. During their union they were married 48 years and created a family to include eight children. She was self-employed as a domestic worker which allowed her to be more available to her husband and children. She and her husband defined family on their own terms providing love, care, intervention and sometimes shelter for others. Rosie joined Emmaus Baptist Church and served on the Ladies Auxiliary Board, Sunday School, taught Bible Class, was a Missionary, and served as a Deaconess. She was one of the founding members of New Journey Baptist Church where she continued to serve in the above capacities, but her ministry would also include Board of Deacons and Trustee. She served the Kingdom of God with her time, energy, and giftings. Those who preceded her in death include her siblings, Joe Spencer, Sam Spencer, Lillian Roberts and Dorothy Forte Anderson; her parents, Eugene Spencer and Corine Strange Spencer; and two of her sons, James Lee Edwards, Jr. and Lawrence Eugene Edwards. She is survived by: her brother ~ Sgt. Major Rafe J. Spencer (Earnisteen); sisters ~ Helene Moore, and Doriscene M. Piper, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; her presence will be missed dearly by her six remaining children ~ Denise Johnson (Micheal), Corine Reed (DeSanta), Rosetta Lynne Brown (Dereck), Dorothea Pinkard (Gary), Spencer Edwards (LeAndrea) and Katherine Whittaker (Herman); she will also be missed by her fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
