Stanley Thomas Lyons' Obituary
Stanley Thomas Lyons, known affectionately as “Stan” or “Pops”, was
born on December 5, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri, and transitioned to
glory on October 7, 2024. A devoted family man, Stanley cherished his
wife, Molly Lyons, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years of
marriage. He was a proud father to Stephanie and Shante, and a loving
grandfather to Brooke, Kaelyn, and Amiri.
Stanley was a remarkable individual with a strong and bold personality.
He was known for his kindness and his strong intuition. He was an
incredible athlete in his youth, having been a boxer, and he proudly
served in the United States Army as a Medic during the Vietnam War.
Stanley spent 42 years teaching in the St. Louis and Normandy public
school districts, where he was recognized as a Master Teacher who
inspired creativity and confidence in his students. His passion for
education culminated in attaining has master’s degree from Maryville
University, a proud milestone in his life.
His love for family and humanity permeated everything he did in life. He
was actively involved in his community, serving as a coach for the
Ferguson-Florissant Athletic Association, and was a proud member of
Ward Chapel AME Church. Stanley had a deep appreciation for the arts,
often expressing his expansive creativity in painting that he proudly
shared with friends and family. He was the life of the party, and adored
family barbeque gatherings where he would show his passion in
winning every card game that he played. Stanley had a zest for life,
often reminding others to “live life!” His favorite place in the world was
Okinawa, Japan, where he was stationed during his military service. He
enjoyed watching anything news-related and all sporting events, with a
fancy for football, basketball, and baseball.
Stanley is now joined with his mother, Louise; his father, Sylvester; his
brothers, Marshall, Melvin and Michael; and his sister, Patricia
Cunningham. He leaves behind: his two children ~ Stephanie BonnerLyons and Dr. Shante Julian Lyons; his three grandchildren ~ Brooke,
Kaelyn and Amiri Lyons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends
