Stanley G. Smith's Obituary
Mr. Stanley (“Stan”) Gerald Smith was born 26 July 1954 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to the union of Robert Emmitt Smith and Mildred Delores Cinermon. He was the second of their eight children. When Stan was nine years old, the family relocated to St. Louis, Missouri. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at Newstead Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri where he sang in the choir and attended Sunday School and Baptist Training Union (BTU). He graduated from Sumner High School and O’Fallon Technical School in 1972 with his high school diploma and certification in Aeromechanics. He enlisted in the United States Air Force the summer after graduation. Inspired by his father’s love of all genres of music and by jazz drummer, Gene Krupa, Stan became a drummer in the Sumner High School band. Throughout his teens, he seldom was seen without his drumsticks and would drum on anything and anybody he could. But his greatest love was airplanes, especially fighter jets. He once told his daughter Kimberly that when he was a child in Louisiana, he saw a crop-duster plane, and the pilot waved at him. That brief moment inspired a lifelong love of airplanes, radio-controlled airplanes, and air shows. His passion for aviation was fulfilled by his 12-year career as an aeromechanic in the Air Force followed by a 30-year career as an aeromechanic at McDonnell-Douglass/Boeing Airlines. His military career included assignments to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida; Lakenheath Air Force Base the United Kingdom; and England Air Force Base in Louisiana where he met and married Patricia (Pat) Dupar. To this union was born his devoted daughter, Kimberly Smith, who followed in her dad’s footsteps and spent 20 years in the Air Force. His marriage to his long-term partner, Jamesetta, brought him the joy of his grandson, DeMarcus, and the care and companionship of his stepson, Andre. Early on Easter morning, April 6, 2026, the Lord called Stan home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jamesetta Pickens Smith; his father, Robert Emmitt Smith; his infant brother, Rodney Smith; his younger brothers, Bruce (Evelyn) Smith and Arthur Darryle (Nadine) Smith; his brother-in-law, Walter (Ella) Duncan, Jr.; his nephew, Blake Smith; his grandparents, Emmitt and Ella Smith and Willie and Earline Cinermon; and his uncles and aunts: Clyde and Bess Smith; Norris and Annie Smith; Thomas and Freddie Foster; L.J. (Loretta) Smith; Issac and Nettie Manuel, Arthur Mae Smith, and Irene and Leroy Holmes. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Mildred (Robert) Smith; daughter, Kimberly Smith; stepson, Andre Johnson; grandson, DeMarcus Johnson; auntie, Rose Timmon; uncle, Felton Earl (Denise) Smith; four siblings, Milton Wayne (Iris) Smith, Ella Marie Duncan, Cynthia Ann (Steven) Johnson, and Pamela Arleen (Mark) Wingo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including his best friend, Michael (Mike) Tyrus.
