Steven Gregory Washington's Obituary
Steven Gregory Washington was born August 23, 1963 to the union of Frank Lee
Washington and Joan M. Washington. He accepted Christ at a very early age and received
his formal education in the St. Louis Public School System where both parents taught.
Steven passed on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Barnes West County Hospital after a lengthy
bout with Pancreatic Cancer. Steven was a 1981 graduate of the Southwest High School of
St. Louis. He attended the University of Missouri at Rolla, studying Engineering. He was a
25-year employee of the United States Postal Service [USPS] and worked at the downtown
St. Louis Facility as a Postal Mail Handler. This is where he met his wife of fifteen years, the
former Crystal Maxine Simmons.
In July of 2000, at Crystal’s Maternal Grandmother’s Family Reunion at San Diego,
California Steven [on bended knees in front of a crowd of nearly 200] proposed to the
former Crystal M. Simmons. The couple married on June 17, 2001 with services held at the
St. Louis Chase Park Plaza Hotel with their Great Uncle Dr. Richard E. Temple, Sr. presiding.
Steven and his wife Crystal have been members of the Grace Church of Maryland Heights,
MO since 2001. On May 11, 2010, the couple had their one and only child, Gabrielle Ariana
Washington, a first grade student at O’Fallon, MO. Steven had a fascination with cars and
enjoyed sports. Steven was an art lover; and an avid collector. He loved his immediate
family and extended family and never missed a Family Reunion Event unless there was a
dire conflict. He loved people and when he saw a need, he figured out how he could help.
Steven was an organizer, a planner and paid strict attention to details in everything he
accomplished. Steven’s girls: Mother-Joan, Wife-Crystal, Daughter-Gabrielle, Step-motherMary
and Mother-In-Law-Ruby were the center of his universe. Steven was preceded in
death by his Maternal grandparents, Wayne Babcock & Dorothy Schwartz Babcock and his
Paternal grandparents, Clyde Washington & Althea Washington.
