Velma Vernice Galimore's Obituary
Ms. Velma ‘Vernice’ Galimore, was born on May 17, 1937 to Nona Bell
Gray and Willie Bernard Galimore in Dundee, Mississippi. She was the
only child from this union.
Vernice graduated from Rosenwald Schools in June of 1956 located in
Batesville, Mississippi where she was also joined in Holy Matrimony to
Charles Robert Turner in April 1957. At a young age, Vernice
confessed Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Bluff
Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Sardis, Mississippi.
Vernice was a very loving and devoted matriarch of the family. Even
after suffering from multiple medical ailments, Vernice still found
room in her life and heart to be there for her family. From her children
to the nurses who assisted her, anyone who has come across her
knows that she had the most contagious laughter and huge heart.
She had a great sense of humor and would keep you laughing with her
stories. She was caring, very protecting, kind, open and the strongest
woman you will ever come across.
Vernice was preceded in death by her son, LaKeithrie T. Galimore,
mother, Nona Bell Gray-Scott, father, Willie Bernard Galimore, brothers
and sister, Hezekiah ‘Jack’ Gilmore, Anthony Bernard Galimore and
Joann Galimore.
She leaves behind to mourn her loss but cherish her memories: her
daughter ~ Marty Dixson, who was her devoted caregiver for the last
twenty-two years - Marty was not only her daughter but her best
friend with whom she spent her last days with; her most joyous gifts
were her grandchildren ~ Patricia LaShae Dixson, Sydney Paige
Dixson, Antonio LaKeithrie Galimore, Gregory Cornell Dixson and
Victoria Taylor Morris; great-grandchildren ~ Ny’Lah, Aiden, Riley,
Londyn, Carter and Kendrix; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
other loving relatives and friends.
During her last days, Vernice was blessed to be surrounded
by her loved ones. She was resilient to leave until
she said goodbye to everyone.
