Vicki Altemus Phillips' Obituary
Vicki Leslie Altemus was born on July 31, 1956 in Saint Louis, Missouri. She
was the daughter of Mrs. Juanita Delores and Mr. Lloyd George Altemus who
preceded her in death.
Vicki was educated in the Saint Louis Public School system and graduated
from Scullin Elementary and Northwest High Schools. Her academic journey
continued upon her graduation with a Bachelor of Science degree from
Howard University and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law
Center. Both universities are in Washington, DC. During her Federal service
career, she was employed on Capitol Hill in the office of Congressman William
Clay. In 1994, she retired from the DC Government, Office of Workers
Compensation, as a Claims Examiner. She returned to Saint Louis, Missouri to
live with her mother, Juanita, in 1996.
Vicki attended and was baptized in Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church as a
young child.
Vicki enjoyed music, cooking, and travel. She had a smile and a laugh for
everyone she met. She possessed a kind spirit and a positive attitude.
Vicki leaves to cherish her memory: her sisters, Debra Altemus of Saint Louis,
Missouri; Denise Altemus-Barden (Alfred) and their son, Ramses, of Altadena,
California; brothers, Lloyd John (deceased) (Rochelle and Derrick (deceased));
Anthony Victor (deceased) (Anthony and Austin); cousins, grand-nieces, grandnephews, and special family friends, Paula Walker Caldwell and Col. William
Griffin (Ret.). As a freshman student at Howard University, Vicki met Nancy
Flake Johnson, Cheryl Saffold, and Dr. Iris Davis with whom she established
and developed a devoted and enduring friendship that sustained Vicki
through her illness.
