Walter V. Jones' Obituary
Walter Virtus Jones was born on March 3, 1936 to his parents Rev. Walter V Jones Sr. and Mrs. Evangeline Jones in Lafayette County, Mississippi. Walter was the fourth child of eight children born to this union. His father, mother and five siblings: Amos K., Willie B., Mary, Effie and Florence preceded his in death.
Walter received his education in Lafayette County Public Schools in Mississippi. He professed his hope in Christ at an early age by joining Flint Hill M. B. church where he remained a member until he moved to Saint Louis, Missouri. Later joining Westin Mount Carmel M.B. church as an active member then later joining Family of Faith church until his health started to decline.
Walter married the love of his life, Maggie Pearl (Mathis) on July 16, 1958 who preceded him in death. Walter loved to cook and was employed at the Sheraton Hotel, The St. Louisiana, finishing his career at the Holiday Inn in Tallassee Florida. Walter operated a successful lawn care business until health issues forced him to retire. Walter loved the following hobbies: cooking for family, fishing and gardening. He departed this life on the morning of May 30, 2018 quietly in his sleep.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: Verities Bell (Shirley) of Bruce MS., Robert Jones (Lee Ronnie), and Elizabeth Spearman (Jessie) of St. Louis, MO. Five sisters-inlaw ~ Alice Jones-Alexander, Mary Jones of Oxford, MS., Emma Dennis and Cassie Washington of St. Louis, MO; and three daughters ~ Patricia Johnson (Gary) of Kansas City, MO, Janice Jones, Jennifer Jones of St. Louis, MO; and one son ~ Walter C. Jones (Shallon). Walter had seven grand children ~ Timothy Johnson (Stephanie), LaKesha Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Walter Vance Jones (Sharin), Shonyae Jones, Serenity Sneed, Moriah Harris, Kayden Jones, of St. Louis, MO. Two great grand children ~ Alesha Johnson and Timothy Johnson Jr. of Kansas City, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loyal grass customers and precious neighbors, and friends
