Amos Cleveland Hampton Jr.'s Obituary
. Amos C. “Sunny” Hampton was born December 2, 1938 in
Lexington, Mississippi to the proud parents, the late Amos and
Ethelma Hampton. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus
Christ and was baptized at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church
where he was a choir member.
In 1961 he completed high school at Saint Junior College in
Lexington, Mississippi. He furthered his education in Maryland, with
majoring in Computer Technology. Sunny played football for Saints
Junior College and among other things, “Sunny” loved hunting and
fishing.
In the late 1960’s, Amos moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he
worked at Central Hardware and Chrysler Automotive Plant. He was
united in holy matrimony to Helen Nickels in June 1968. This union
was blessed with four children.
Amos joined the Masonic Order throughout his life. He was known as
an excellent mechanic; he loved repairing cars from which he started
his own business in the early 70s. He was an entrepreneur. He loved
to work on many different projects and activities. He enjoyed the
company of his dogs. Sunny enjoyed buying and renovating houses,
to make loving homes for needy families.
Amos departed this life on Sunday, November 15, 2015, surrounded
by his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
brothers, Otha D. Hampton and Johnny “Pete” Hampton and his
grandson, Jovuan Hampton and granddaughter, Kayla Wooten.
His life will forever be cherished by: his wife ~ Helen Hampton; four
children ~ Jacqueline Hampton, Andrea (Karl) Wooten, Joseph
Hampton and Dujuan Hampton, all of St. Louis, Missouri; six grandchildren;
three great grandchildren; eight sisters and two brothers ~
Essie (John) Stevenson of Pearl, Mississippi, Bessie Hampton of
Chicago, Illinois, Sarah Jean Hampton of Atlanta, Georgia; Geraldine
Carson of Pearl, Mississippi, Mildred Hampton of Memphis,
Tennessee, Odessare Martin of St. Louis, Missouri, Thelma (Jennette)
Hampton of St. Louis, Missouri, Ed (Rena) Wilburn of San Jose,
California and Leonard (Tammy) Hampton of Lexington, Mississippi
and Katherine Hampton of Jackson, Mississippi and Anthony (Joyce)
McCurthy, grandson of Spring, Texas; and a host of devoted nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
