Barbara Ann Bent's Obituary
Barbara Ann Bent was born on November 11, 1933 to the late
Albert and Ceacil Lou Garside. She was a graduate of Hamilton High
School and attended Central State University. She retired from the
Xenia School System in 1980.
Barbara was united in Holy Matrimony to Michael Carlos Bent, Sr.
on October 10, 1957. She was the mother of four children who
loved, cherished and respected her. As a homemaker during the
early years of her children’s lives, she loved, cared, nurtured and
inspired them to achieve their personal goals. She loved to shop,
cook, sew and play the piano (by note and ear).
Barbara accepted the Lord Jesus Christ early in life and was very
active in the A.M.E. churches, where she served as pianist, choir
director, youth department director, missionary, secretary,
treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Barbara had a beautiful voice
and sang at many churches throughout Ohio. In 1994, she and her
husband moved to Trotwood, Ohio and became members of Omega
Baptist Church in Dayton.
Barbara departed this life Tuesday, May 24, 2016. She was
preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Michael
Carlos Bent, Sr., a son, Michael Carlos Bent, Jr.; two sisters, Janet
Elizabeth Cook and Annie Ruth Coleman; three brothers, Albert
Garside, Jr., Henry Flu Garside and Calvin Bobbie Garside.
Left to cherish her memories are: daughters ~ Charlene Janith
(Jerome) Murray and Meckila Ann Bent; son ~ Christopher Baxter
(Yolanda) Bent; sister ~ Marilyn (Ronald) Phillips; brother ~ Baxter
Marvin (Floretta) Garside; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren;
many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives
and friends.
