John Sherod, Jr.'s Obituary
God sent an angel to earth on March 21, 1927. He was the only
child of John and Sally Sherod in Detroit, Michigan.
John received his education in the public schools of Michigan,
Mississippi and Missouri. He joined the U.S. Navy towards the end
of World War ll and served for two years.
John met the love of his life, Jean Mosby in 1953 and they were
married in 1954. Jean preceded John in death in 2003. They have
four children: Ronald (Michelle), Darwin, Jean and Paul, who were
all a constant presence. He always had one of them around.
In the late 50s John and Jean joined the Lutheran church and both
remained very active members. John was last a member of
Transfiguration Lutheran Church after moving from Warrenton and
transferring his membership from St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He loved his church, his family and reading the newspaper,
magazines, books, researching on his computer, puzzles and writing.
John worked most of his adult life for the U.S. Army and retired as a
Systems Analyst after more that thirty years. After retirement, he
finished his dream of a college degree from Concordia University in
St. Louis, Missouri. He was a prolific writer; writing for local
newspapers, religious magazines as well as books of poetry and
short-books for children.
John departed this life at 10:15 a.m., on Friday, March 18, 2016
when he was quietly called home by our Lord.
In addition to his four children, John had a large supportive family
who cherished his memory that includes eleven grandchildren and
seventeen great grandchildren, in-laws and other relatives and
friends.
