Vernon Lee Jones Jr.'s Obituary
Gathered here in remembrance of Vernon Lee Jones, Jr., a cherished son, brother
and friend. Born on April 15, 1974 in Saint Louis, Missouri. Vernon graced this
world with a charisma that could light up even the darkest rooms. Through his
journey came to an end on March 20, 2025 in his hometown at the age of fifty,
his legacy remains intact in our hearts.
Vernon spent his formative years in Urbana, Illinois, where he attended Urbana
High School. He later found his professional calling at Nesco, a job that allowed
him to forge lasting friendships and touch the lives of many. However, Vernon’s
proudest moment came on May 26, 2024, when he dedicated his life to Christ.
Embracing his faith with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything he did.
Those who knew Vernon will fondly remember him as a man of laughter and
compassion; always ready with a joke or a listening ear. His laughter was one in a
million, a sound that could uplift spirits and fill the spaces around him with joy. His
generosity knew no bounds and he used his skills and time to support his
community, family and friends, showing a heart as big as his smile.
Vernon’s love for children was evident in the countless hours he spent caring for
them, leaving a lasting impact on the young lives he touched. He also had a deep
passion for cars, often dreaming of life or on a race track.
Though his father, Vernon Lee Jones, Sr., preceded in him death; Vernon leaves
behind a loving family: his mother ~ Patricia Shabazz; sisters ~ Crystalleshell Tate,
Ikelah Thompson, Fuchsia Jones and Brianna Hunt; and a host of nieces,
nephews who all carry his memory forward.
His presence was not just felt but cherished as he had an uncanny ability to bring
smiles and laughter to any gathering. As we prepare to say our final goodbyes, we
do so at 12140 New Halls Ferry Road, where we will gather to honor Vernon’s life
and the impact he made on each of us. While the world feels a little dimmer
without him, we take solace in knowing Vernon’s spirit lives on in the lives he
touched. His heart was truly the biggest and its echoes will be heard for years to
come.
